The college offers MDS course in various specialties of dentistry, which includes Orthodontics, Periodontics, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Prosthodontics, Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Oral Pathology & Microbiology and Paedodontics & Preventive Dentistry.

Eligibility Criteria

Master of Dental Surgery (M.D.S.) - Post Graduate

Degree in Dental Course

Candidates for admission to the first year of M.D.S Post Graduate Degree Dental Course shall be required to:

a. Have qualified for the B.D.S Degree of this University or any other University recognized as equivalent thereto by the authority of this University and the Indian Dental Council and obtained permanent registration from any of the State Dental Councils.

b. Have passes B.D.S Degree examination and completed one year of C.R.R.I.

Or

One year of House Surgeon ship in a recognized Dental College, if they belong to old regulations;

Or

Three years of experience in Dental practice after the B.D.S qualification and registration with the State Dental Council.

Dissertation & Evaluation of Dissertation

The topic of the dissertation should be submitted at the end of First Year. The Candidate should also inform the name of the Guide for the dissertation to the University while submitting the dissertation topic.

If there is change in the dissertation topic, the same has to be informed before the end of the first year course.

The dissertation should be submitted duly signed by the Professor of that branch and the same has to be forwarded to the Controller of Examination through the Dean or Principal of the College.

The dissertation should be submitted by 15th December. Last date for submission is 31st December (with fine Rs. 2000/-)

Marks for Dissertation is 100. (50 marks for each Examiner).

Marks should be sent by the Examiners to the university by 31st January. If he fails in dissertation he will be permitted to write the examination but result will be withheld.

On submission of the corrected thesis which is approved by the Examiner (pass mark of 50% should be obtained), the result may be released.

If two Examiners marks varies by more than 30% a third evaluation should be done.

Maintenance of Log book

Every Post Graduate candidate shall maintain a record of skills (Log Book), he/ she has acquired during the more years training period, certified by the various Heads of Department, where he / she has undergone training.

The candidate is also required to participle in the teaching and training program for the Under Graduate student.

In addition, the Head of the Department shall involve their Post-Graduate students in seminars, Journal Group Discussions and Participation in conferences.

The Head of the Department shall scrutinize the Log Book once in every three months.At the end of the course, the candidate should summarize the contents and get the Log Book certified by the Head of the Department.

Every Post-Graduate candidate should be encouraged to present short HMRC papers in conferences and improve on it and submit them for publication in reputed Dental journals, Motivation by the Heads of Departments shall be essential in this area to sharpen the research skills of the Post-Graduate candidates.

Question Paper

Four papers with 100 marks each with three hours duration.

The Theory Exam will be conducted at the end of the third year.

Paper I - Applied Basic Medical Sciences

Anatomy & Histology

Physiology & Biochemistry

Microbiology

Pathology

Pharmacology

Each subject will have two questions. Totally 10 questions. (10X10 = 100 marks).


The question paper will be set by the Concerned Speciality. There is no oral Exam for Basic Science.

Papers II and III = 10 X 10 = 100 marks
Paper IV - “Recent Advances” = Essays 4 X 25 = 100 marks

The students should pass in all the Theory papers individually.

Revaluation/Retotalling Of Answer Papers

There is no provision for revaluation of answer papers. However, retotalling is allowed in the failed subjects.

Number of Appearances

A candidate registered for three years M.D.S. Course must qualify in the Examinations within six years from the date of his / her admission.

The candidate will not be permitted to appear for more than five attempts in the final examinations and shall be discharged from the course if he / she fails to pass examination in the said number of attempts.

Duration of Completion of the Course of Study

The duration for the completion of the course shall be fixed as double the time of the course and the students have to pass within the said period otherwise they have to get fresh admission.

Award of Distinction and University Ranks

Distinction will be awarded to successful candidates who secure 75% marks or more as a course aggregate in all the subjects without any failure.
